Continuing Fire Service Education for the Experienced Fire District Commissioner

Advanced Fire Commissioner Training

The course applies the knowledge of veteran fire commissioners through examination and solution of real-life problems faced by fire commissioners. It includes a practical application of laws and regulations to problems commissioners face each day.

This lively interactive course explores the practical challenges faced by experienced fire commissioners through examination and discussion of contemporary issues facing fire commissioners.

All commissioners are invited to attend as are experienced secretaries, treasurers and fire chiefs. However only commissioners with at least 5 years prior experience will be given credit towards their mandatory commissioner training. Applicants must certify their prior experience for credit.

The course meets and exceeds the requirements of Town Law 176-e; has been approved by the NYS Comptroller and satisfies requirements for commissioner training for those who are required to complete training within 270 days of election or appointment.

Developed and lead by fire service attorneys Mark Butler and Terry Hannigan who have over 50 combined years experience advising and representing fire districts.
