NYSAFC is pleased to offer two new educational opportunities at FIRE 2022 to assist fire district administrators, including fire commissioners, fire district secretaries, treasurers, and fire chiefs!

NYS Fire Commissioner Training

 

Wednesday, June 15 – 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

@ The Oncenter (lower level) – Rooms 5-6, Syracuse, New York

 

Registration Fee: $125 – Includes breakfast, lunch & three One Day Tickets for the FIRE 2022 Expo (valid June 16-18)


This course provides basic fire commissioner training by examining the authority and responsibilities of fire district commissioners. Class participation with group discussion is emphasized and illustration of fire district problems engages all participants and makes the material practical and meaningful. The course is presented by two of the leading fire service attorneys in New York state with extensive experience representing fire districts and training fire district commissioners. The course meets and exceeds the requirements of Town Law 176-e, is approved by the NYS Comptroller, and satisfies fire commissioner training requirements for those required to complete training within 270 days of election or appointment. Designed for fire commissioners, fire district secretaries, treasurers, and fire chiefs are also encouraged to attend.

"Fire Chiefs and Fire District Commissioners: Who’s Really in Charge"

 

Thursday, June 16 – 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Registration Fee: $75 – Includes breakfast and three One Day Tickets for the FIRE 2022 Expo (valid June 16-18)


This course addresses the unique legal and practical relationship between the fire chief and a fire district board of fire commissioners. The course will examine the development and implementation of policies, procurement and making practical sense of the legal requirements for buying everything from gloves to apparatus, the fire district budgeting process and how to guide it for favorable operational results, membership challenges and the disciplinary process, and having a greater impact on fire district elections. The instructors will discuss real life examples in each of the subjects, including practical considerations. The lively, interactive course is presented by two of the leading fire service attorneys in New York state with extensive experience in representing fire districts and training fire district commissioners.
